Leaders in Training - LIT (5 Days)
Leaders in Training (LIT) – Learn, Practice and Develop
Our Leaders in Training (LIT) programme offers a practical, structured week focused on learning how children’s activity sessions are planned, delivered and supported. Running across the full week, it allows young people to build skills, practise them and see clear progression as their confidence grows.
Our day starts from 9.00am, with collection between 3.30pm and 4.00pm. LIT is ideal for young people interested in developing leadership skills, gaining experience with children and understanding how activity sessions work.
Across the week, activities may include safeguarding awareness, a basic first aid introduction, icebreakers and group games, session planning, understanding SOPs, and opportunities to design and deliver activity sessions. Learning is introduced early and then put into practice through supported, hands-on experience.
Alongside the training, participants also take part in practical outdoor activities such as water-based sessions, team games and outdoor challenges, helping keep the week active and engaging.
Young people will plan and run short sessions, receive feedback, reflect on their progress and take part in an end-of-week evaluation, finishing with a YMCA certificate presentation.
We also offer an optional Thursday Sleepover, giving children the chance to sleep in a tent with friends, enjoy dinner and breakfast, and create unforgettable memories in a safe, supervised camp environment.
For those who want the Full camp experience, children can stay overnight throughout the week, from Monday to Thursday. Evenings are spent relaxing with friends, sharing meals and making memories, before settling down for a good night’s sleep and starting the next day refreshed and ready to go. All meals are included, making this a simple, all-inclusive option for families.
